Yoga and Mindfulness

The actual practice of yoga involves numbers of physical pose that can be classified into 3 groups: Standing Poses, Back and Forward Bends and Floor Poses such as Downward dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana) which is a forward bend. When practice make sure to feel your body. What is the feeling in the arms, legs, backs and hands. Doing this allows for the mind to go ‘home’ because the body is the home.

How it relates to Mindfulness
Yoga poses help us be “in” our body. They help us notice what we are
feeling and sensing
• That is a form of concentration
• It’s also a way of “being in the moment” (aka: mindfulness)
• When you really stay in your body—feeling your arms, your legs, your
back and your hands and feet—the mind can calm down as it has a
“home” to go into. That home is your body
